Just saw your "post" regarding the ship Pacific Ranger which was torpedoed in October 1940.
My late grandfather's brother was the Master/Captain of the Pacific Ranger, and his name was Capt. William Evans, from Caernarvonshire in North Wales.
Sadly, after leading his crew of 53 men and 2 passengers, who were all saved, he, himself died after alighting from a train in Manchester Central Station during the blackout, and falling between the train and platform. He was killed aged 47 years. Later, he was posthumously awarded the OBE for his bravery and saving his crew.
Hoping this information is of some interest/help to you.
