<HTML>Zschech was a loner who alienated everyone but his buddy Thilo Bode. Hans never gave me the least bit of impression that anyone felt responsible for letting Zschech down. They were just angry that he abandoned them at a moment of crisis instead of doing it back in Lorient so they could get a capable replacement skipper. When they hauled Zschech\'s body up to the con for burial, everyone in the control room ignored acting skipper Meyer\'s order to come to attention. Hans said: \"Maybe if he wasn\'t wrapped in the hammock we could have saluted the uniform, but nobody wanted to stand at attention for the man.\"</HTML>
