translated into english, with the original german also available, on uboatarchives.net. an interesting read...this is the patrol that buchheim went on.
when they get the message about the run to gibraltar, the comment in the ktb seems to be to be the definition of sarcasm: new patrol assignment received with enthusiasm.
and as buchheim indicated in the novel, hlw was a master of understatement. he does include a long list of all the damage sustained in the bombing at gibraltar, including damage to the pressure hull, and compliments the crew for their diligence in making repairs, but the tone seems to me to be one of "yes, i expected nothing less from them...they're a good crew."
even bdu commented on the crew's performance in an addendum to the ktb, available in english and german.
