Thank you for the quick reply. The biat had series engine trouble in 1941 and was repaired and return immmediately to service. The boat sustained damage to her periscope in 1942 from a convoy off the Burin Peninsula. Kar Thurmann was in command of this boat since it was launched April 13th, 1941. Thurman was well trained an knew this boat and her crew well. Practically all of his 10 patrols yeilded successful hits. What is your take on "sehrohr unklar" periscope not clear? Which was his last transmission - although I have not found that document yet. Another intersting mystery is that it was part of the 7th Flotilla which was based out of St. Nazaire. However, his last patrol left La Pallice on January 16th and remained just outside the Bay of Biscay until it recieived it's operational orders on January 22nd. Not sure about the whole Nautical Yearbook that was handed over to U465 on January 20th. Is that something they did often and what was the purpose?
