All,
Reading through BdU war diaies on uboatarchive.net and the following was an interesting entry.
11 January 1944
Admonitory Radio Message No. 76:
When about to dive because of danger from aircraft the "Naxos" antenna of one submarine was left on the bridge, cable caused conning tower hatch to jam while being closed. Commanding Officer gave order "Blow" and dashed to the bridge. His order reached the control room too late, the boat dipped, conning tower hatch was slammed from above, Commanding Officer overboard, not picked up.
Can somebody identify the boat and commander in question?
KR,
Mark
