That's right, Mark. The boat was surprised at 2138 by a British Leigh-Light equipped Liberator from 224 Squadron and attacked with gunfire. This attack was driven off by anti-aircraft fire, but a second Liberator approached a few minutes later, and that's when the order to dive was given. (The aicraft are mis-identified in U-625's KTB as "Lancaster-type".)

I've tried my hand at translating U-625's KTB entry on this incident, in case you're interested.
