<HTML>Relax is essential for the crew and those Commanders knew their business. Clearly they were not anxious to enter such trivial things into their log-books but when you are many thousand of miles away from home and nobody is actually shooting upon you safety is not compromised. Anyway you may be sure that while half of the crew was relaxing, the other half was not.
For the local fishermen, the war was a distant, stranger business, while trading with a casual customer, like an U-boat, could get some good deal. It took a lot of effort from the US Government to lure the Hispano-Caraibic States on his side against the Germans.
