<HTML>French workers were not given too many chances to sabotage the U-boats they worked for. They usually were not allowed inside, and all their work was carefully checked and recorded. Sabotage, when discovered, was rewarded with death penalty for the culprit and deportation for his relatives.
The only thing the French (and later the Italians) were allowed to do was a kind of delaying game based upon so much precise and careful execution of tasks that led to considerable waste of time and resources.
