<HTML>After the war, various samples of metal from armour plate and guns etc, were taken and sent to England for examination by technicians, in case they could find anything of value for future production. My late father was a specialist steel inspector after the war, at Hatfields, Firth Browns and the old English steel, in Sheffield England. They had in their possession, metal from the Prinz Eugen, Sharnharst, and other capital ships from the Kriegsmarine, and samples from the Imperial Japanese navy. In fact I saw a crucifix that had been made from the plate of the Prinz Eugen, and a letter opener from what I think was a Zepplin..! The strangest thing was a back plate for a fishing reel, fashioned from some part of the cock pit from a German fighter aircraft. I knew the man that actually made it, and he recalled that there were lots of bits and pieces laying around that had been sent up for evaluation, both during and after the war. He worked at Rolls Royce in Derby, and they made such items during \"quiet\" periods.Needless to say, they were fantastic fishing reels. They are quite common , even to day, and are worth about $300 or so.</HTML>
