Dear Jeff,

Another starting point for further research might be Harry Schlemmer's book "Vom Turmsehrohr zum Optronikmast: Geschichte der U-Boot-Sehrohre bei Carl Zeiss".
Published 2011 by E.S.Mitller & Sohn, ISBN 978-8132-0931-0.
It covers the design & development of all periscopes built by Carl Zeiss with a lot of photographs, drawings and many source-references.
It is in German, yes...

The book identifies the IXC periscopes as the types StaS C/2 (Stand-Sehrohr C/2) and NLSR C/8 (Nacht-Luftziel-Sehrohr C/8). The same types that fitted out the Type XXI uboats (with U2540 remaining as a museumship).
