Hello Tony,
Her 3rd patrol took her from Lorient on 23 April 1944 (Cdr Ulrich Abel), but the same day she was reported missing in the Bay of Biscay. There was no explanation.
In July 1996, the historian Axel Niestlé revised the disappearance thesis by announcing that the U-193 sunk on 28 April west of Nantes (F), in Pos 45°38’N – 9°43’ W, by depth charges launched from RAF- Vickers Wellingtons of the 612/W Sqdn.
This attack had previously been attributed to U-802.
Best regards.
