<HTML>Found some instances where unexploded torpedoes penetrated the ship\'s hull:
- Dutch freighter Alwaki, torpedoed on July 10 1940 by U-61 (Oesten). She was hit by a torpedo which (apparently) penetrated the hull, causing a small hole in the hull. One of the bulkheads couldn\'t be closed, so the ship eventually succumbed to flooding, despite salvage efforts.
- Dutch freighter Stad Haarlem came under airattack in the Mediterranean on January 26 and 27 1943. After leaving Oran for Britain, the master found a hole of about a foot in diameter in the stern. The only plausible explanation was believed to be an unexploded torpedo penetrating the hull.
Both accounts are from K.W.L. Bezemer \"Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Koopvaardij in de Tweede Wereldoorlog\".</HTML>
