<HTML>Dear Mr Kummrow,
There is a famous scene in both "Das Boot" and in "Jäger im Weltmeer", which makes it more authentic than many other incidents, of the Kommandant actually having the off-duty sailors grating potatoes during the week of the storm so that he can make Reibekuchen, and he actually drafts the Kriegsberichter to help and has the cook woken up so that the Smutt can open tins of Appfelmus, because it goes so well with the Reibekuchen. He then feeds one to every crewmember getting off duty and going on duty. Presumably he was also bored out of his wits by then.
Regards
Io Chrysafidou</HTML>
