<HTML>I did a little digging around on the net and found several references to surface ships using grapnels to try and capture/damage subs, but these tactics were employed by the Japanese in the Pacific and not the Germans in the Atlantic. That doesn't mean it wasn't done, of course, and one of the sites mentions it was a favorite tactic of civilian ships that were converted to wartime use. Still, if anyone knows about this, I'd love to know more!
