FILMING "DAS BOOT" ARTICLE

<HTML>Hello all:

I have just received a copy of the June 1996 issue of "PROCEEDINGS" magazine
from NAVAL INSTITUTE PRESS.

This is the issue that contains a 6-page article on the filming of DAS BOOT by
Captain Hans-Joachim Krug, German Navy (Retired)......

This is a "must read" article for all uboat.net members interested in how the film was made.

I contacted Marianne Dawson at: MDawson@usni.org and she mailed one to me
immediately.

I happen to be a member and she sent it to me free of charge, however, I can`'t say if she would send a copy to a non-member free. If there is a charge, it would
be minimal, including postage.

One of the comments I made previously concerning the "missing twin-tailed"
Lightnings that author Bucheim describes, is explained........"We were unable to locate authentic British aircraft (Lockheed P-38 Lightnings were sent to Britain as part of the "Lend-Lease" program) for the film's air attack, to which the submarine and part off the crew fell victim. We found two old American planes at a French Aero Club, and these, with RAF roundels freshly painted, had to serve for British fighter-bombers. Their French pilots flew them flawlessly in the film."

I hope you can get a copy soon.

Cheers,

ROBERT M.</HTML>
