<HTML>Dear Steve,
The (green) sawfish was the emblem of U 96 from its third patrol onwards, actually handpainted by the caricaturist who had first drawn the cartoon (Kossatz), but by the boat's seventh patrol (the one on which the book is based), the 7th Flotilla commander, Herbert Sohler, had decreed that all u-boats of that flotilla should bear the emblem of the flotilla only, which happened to be the Snorting Bull of Scapa flow, as originally painted on U 47 by Engelbert Endrass, so as to avoid any unnescessary risks.
I do hope this answers yor question.
Regards
Io</HTML>
