This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.
U-571 is The Wrath of Khan... underwater!

<HTML>You don't need a commendation for original thinking to realize that U-571 is not just a rip-off of Das Boot. For two years I've had a sneaking suspicion that it's plot was incredibly similar to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I'm not joking.

-U-571 starts with a German U-boat attacking and destroying an allied freighter. Out of nowhere comes a British destroyer and blasts the crap out of them.
-TWOK starts with the Enterprise trying to rescue a disabled freighter. Three Klingon Battlecruisers come out of nowhere and blasts the crap out of them. (It’s all a simulation of course).
-Bill Paxton is in command of a hunk of war torn scrap metal. His XO is disappointed that he can’t command said scrap metal.
-Spock is now in command of the hunk of space-worn scrap metal. Kirk is busy sitting at a desk and expanding his ass.
-In Mostow’s bizarre fantasy world, U-boat sailors are huge strapping Nazis with blond hair, blue eyes, and giant muscular chests.
-Khan’s henchmen all have blond hair, blue eyes, and giant (real) muscular chests.
-The U-boat captain shoots up a lifeboat full of British survivors for no reason.
-Khan kills everyone on Regula 1 for no reason.
-The U-boat and a destroyer engage in a "tense" (cough) game of cat-and-mouse in the middle of the Atlantic. A torpedo blows up the ship in a goofy pyrotechnics display.
-The Enterprise and Reliant engage in a game of cat-and-mouse in the Mutara Nebula. A couple of photon torpedoes smash the Reliant in a goofy pyrotechnics display.
-The Hero(tm) sacrifices his life for the crew by fondling the diesel engines.
-Spock sacrifices his life for the crew by fondling the warp core.
-Cornball farewell platitudes are exchanged.
-All (or most) of the engineers are incapacitated by the initial surprise attack.
-The ship (or sub) is crewed by green trainees.
-Both films protray groups of people ably commanding vessels they have no experience with.
-The enemy is defeated using "three-demensional thinking."

Any others I missed?</HTML>
