The boat in "Crash Dive" was a MACKEREL-Class boat, launched at Electric Boat in Groton, CT on 9/28/1940. 253' OA X 21.5' beam X 12' draft. 1600 HP =14.5 knots- Displacement 800 tons. Armament: four 21" tubes fwd and two aft. One
3"-50 caliber deck gun and 2 machine guns. (This boat was all Steel construction.....:-))
