<HTML>Other people can give you a far more technical answer, but basically the blue lights are supposed to make the interior of the vessel invisible at night, if it's on the surface with the hatch (Turmluk) open; red lighting helps one's eyes adjust to darkness so that one's visual acuity is optimized. In other words, so you can see in the dark. I've experienced having red light in a boat at night and it works; can't vouch for the blue light.
