Das Boot:What historical facts is the movie based

<HTML>I am about to watch the dvd of the movie Das Boot. I have seen it many years before. Can someone share the historical facts about the movie?

1) What class of u-boat is the movie based on?
2) How was the boat really destroyed (I thought most U-boats were in pens to avoid getting bombed from airplanes).
3) Was the u-boat a victim of Allied Huff/Duff tracking?
4) Any other historical items I should glen from the movie?
