Thanks Ron. I mentioned before the extract from a history of Isdlandmagee which gave some more details of the sinking. Three of the crew came from there. This is it: "The Bray Head was on voyage from St John's N B to the UK and was attacked on Wednesday evening of the date mentioned at 6.30 o'clock. The only gun carried by the ship was a three pounder in charge of two marines but

Thanks Ron. I found a reference in a book about the little village of Islandmagee in Co Antrim (where three of the crew came from) which said that the crew were put adrift into two boats. One which included the master vanished and that is why the 15th is given for him and at least one of the others. The book also said there were two naval gunners. Do you mind me asking where this info comes from

Hello Ron Thanks for the message. I have a copy of the last crew agreement for the Bray Head which lists all the crew and details those lost. However if you could send what you have to compare, I would be most grateful. Hi Iam doing some research into the sinking of a steamer called the Bray Head en route from Newfoundland to Belfast in March 1917. A relative of mine was killed when the ship was sunk by U 44. The crew were put into open boats and the ship was sunk by gun fire. One of the boats later foundered and 21 men were lost including the skipper.
