Andrew, 2) Officers and men altogether I have counted 5409 lost. Though it is probably not the exact figure, I believe it could be a good approximation. Rgds Yves

David After the war, Valentiner wrote the story of his war time and he recalls that story. I suppose the book was translated in english as it is in french in my own copy. I can't remember the german title. The french title is "La terreur des mers". If you wish so, I can make a scan for you. VBR Yves

Moin Simon, Oliver I just had a look at the list of ships involved in submarine war held at Vincennes. No other f/v recorded one day before or one day after. LR2006 indicates that the vessel was registered at Lorient (or maybe La Rochelle - I h

Stuart, We have a certain amount of photos taken on board U35 when in 1916, an official photographer and a cameraman joined the boat for filming the patrol in a propaganda purpose. Concerning the U35 patrol, the film issued after is titled "Der magische Gürtel" or "The Encha

The event you refer to occured on Nov.6, 1917. While on his way back to Cattaro, passing Otranto Straits a spread of 3 torpedos was fired against U35 from french sub Faraday, Lt Cdr Bougard. It is true that one of the torpedos fired at low depth jumped over the waves, hit the bridge of U35 without exploding and pursued its way off. The two others went missing one in front and the other one behind
