This is my second posting as regards U701. I'm a collector of military timepieces and purchased a WW2 era German watch marked, on the dial, ASTER, and on the back DU. Nothing really unusual. However, stamped (twice) into the back of the case is: u.701! Since U701 was not particularly famous I can only assume that someone, with a connection to the boat, had it so marked. Since Horst D

I recently acquired a black dial watch of 1939 vintage. It's marked "ASTER" on the dial (Champagne W Co of Biel). It has an AS1130 mvt (the Wehrmacht model to the Swiss). Chromed case with SS back. The back is stamped "DU". There are also 2 stampings of "u.701" on the back. I know of no relationship between a "DU" watch and the "u.701"
