I have compiled a list of the Ellerman Line war losses and have received the following request with regard to the sinking of 'CITY OF ATHENS' in 1942. I can account for 38 crew and 3 gunners (2 MRA and 1 RN) lost. However, when you have ambiguity from different sources, I would always recommend you check the primary sources. Hello David, Your grandfather was aboard ss CAPE NELSON at the same time as my late father. They both joined the ship on 18/6/1940 and paid off on 21/1/1941. Just a month later, on her next voyage, CAPE NELSON was torpedoed. I have the Crew Agreement for 1940/1 - the penultimate one. Your grandfather is No 19 on Articles.
