I have a simple questions with maybe a not so simple answer. I've seen where many U Boat commanders who survived the war also rejoined the German Navy after the war. My question is this. Were they able to wear their Medals on their uniform they had earned during the war. IE the Iron Cross and such. Thank you for the answer

I'm not sure exactly how to reach those in control of this site. But I've tried to find more information about the school boats, what they did during this period, and so on. Yes I know they trained crews but do we have more information about the training. Also put out for others who have this info. Thank you

I could be wrong but it looks like it could be the detonator to a torpedo, if it is you will want to insure it has been rendered safe

Hi, I think what you are looking for is in the technologies area of this site. It will explain what the U boat fleet had at its disposal. Also then check out the Allied section of this site to see what destroyers were used. I think an important note to make in your speech is the fact that in the beginning England didn't have many destroyers for escort use to combat the U-Boat threat. Bec

On todays featured captain it had Hans-Georg Fisher. In it it states; When Fischer returned to port after his first patrol Dönitz deemed that he was unsuitable for commanding a U-boat and removed him from command. (Blair, vol 1) From here he went on to various other duties. My question is do we know what happened that he was removed from command. Also how rare was this in the U Boat arm. I

Hi Bruce, I see your point in that this could be a "What If" depending on how you look at it. If this is how it appears I am sorry because i don't mean it this way. But again I point to the main two points of my topic, or better questions in it. First when you look at the topics in which the war has been covered relating to the history of it. You don't see this topic cover

Hi all, first thanx all for the info. Most of this I did not know, and it was certainly interesting. But I think some missed my two main points. Them being this topic isn't well known or publicized, and also how if the USA went down because of a loss to Japan. How this would affect the war in Europe for the simple fact the US supplied much of the war material for the war in Europe! Mike

I know this is a bit off topic as it don't really fit into the U-Boat War. But while deep in thought, I wondered why when England had one of the most powerful navies in the world, and some of the most advanced carriers. Why didn't England assist the U.S. more against Japan with her carriers. Given the fact she also fought Japan because of her colonies, as well as assisting the U.S. who

To add a bit to the Yes. The U 869, when found, and dives made on it to I.D.it. The divers did find remains. This boat is also known as the U-Who because the boat was known to be there but no one knew what boat it was. The condition of the remains are subject to the conditions surrounding the boat. Hope this answered the ???? Mike

Hi Rainer, TY, for the research. lol. I didn't look into it that far but thought it was a good article to post. It would make sense though for them to throw some confusion into the press release. Mike

To the web monitor, please forgive this post as I know it doesn’t relate to the U-Boat war. But it does relate to those who fought bravely and I think many would like to see this. Here is a link to a story on some men who fought, and also a gift given for this fight. If you read this story, think of the tears you would shed being the last to make this toast. It brought tears to my
