John, U-103 was initially 04-095 (2 Jan. 1940) then 04-095 was assigned to U-3055 (March 1944 - U-3055 was never commissioned); U-103 was taken out of service March 1944. Freddy.... ...It was normal that the neckerchief was always kept knotted and tied with a permanently affixed starched white ribbon (white securing bow) tied around the knot. Many units and ship's captains would not permit this habit and required fastening the knot every time the neckerchief would be worn. When worn, the knot was invisibly secured at it's reverse by the slash ribbons

Platon, Thanks for the info...for sure I now know positively he was riding Nordmark on 20 April. Were there any other entries that indicated how he arrived onboard (from which U-Boat -- U-105 or U-106???).
