John, U-103 was initially 04-095 (2 Jan. 1940) then 04-095 was assigned to U-3055 (March 1944 - U-3055 was never commissioned); U-103 was taken out of service March 1944. U-103 was put back into service January 1945 (now assigned 05-635). 05-635 = U-185 (27 Jan. 1942 until August 1943) then subsequently U-103 (Jan. 1945) References: - Die Feldpostnummern der Kriegsmarine 1939-1945 (See

Freddy.... ...It was normal that the neckerchief was always kept knotted and tied with a permanently affixed starched white ribbon (white securing bow) tied around the knot. Many units and ship's captains would not permit this habit and required fastening the knot every time the neckerchief would be worn. When worn, the knot was invisibly secured at it's reverse by the slash ribbons

Platon, Thanks for the info...for sure I now know positively he was riding Nordmark on 20 April. Were there any other entries that indicated how he arrived onboard (from which U-Boat -- U-105 or U-106???). I know that from another source* that he departed Nordmark on 20 April to return to Atlantis (Schiff 16). Is the Nordmark KTB available online?? *Tanker und Versorger der Deutsche

260. Nordmark
Am looking for info in KTB's for U-105 and U-106 relating to transfer of a German officer named "Kamzen" to Trosschiff Nordmark in March/April 1941. Pertinent U-Boat KTB entries that might show this personnel trans

Max... An excellent source for the details on this operation is outlined in "K-Men" by C.D. Bekker - ISBN 0-7041-0006-1 (1973) on pages 99 to 114. The Biber part of this operation (firing torpedoes with net boom destroying hooks and towing tree trunks with 3 ton explosive charges) is detailed on pages 113 and 114.

Steve... Could you provide info regarding the album, i.e., maybe the former owners name or other "sale" description. The emblem could possibly be a coat of arms of a German city. The previous info is needed in order to do a little detective work.... It is not listed in Hogel's book U-Boat Emblems in World War II (Embleme, Wappen, Malings Deutscher U-Boote 1939-1945). Lo

Not sure that this book will be translated into the English language.
