Good Morning Barry I also heard the sad news and I wish to offer my condolances to the dead man's family. Hi Robert I am from Ireland. The documentary film was most interesting. I discovered that Hans-Günther Kuhlmann Commander of U 166 stepped foot on Irish soil in 1940. At that time he was third watch officer, Leutnant-zur-see onboard U 37. I hope you will get another opportunity to see this documentary film. Regards Denis Martin

Hi Hans A friend of mine has told me that he saw U-boat POW'S disembarking in Greenock and some were blindfolded. Where any of the crew from U-35 blindfolded when taken ashore in Greenock. I know some U-boat POW'S were blindfolded when landed at Allied ports. Regards Denis

Hi All I have just heard some exciting news. U778 lies 16 miles off the North-West coast of Ireland. Salvage plans are being explored to see if this wreck could be raised from the deep and brought ashore. It is a possibility that this U-Boat might be put on display in the Maritime Museum in Derry City in Northern Ireland. Regards Denis Martin

Hi Larry The wreckage that you mention,it is highly unlikely that this would relate to the Irish Trawler Leukos. The Leukos was sunk in the North Atlantic 12 miles North-West off Tory Island, Co.Donegal. Have a look at a map of Ireland and the British Isles. Kind Regards Denis Martin

Hi MPC Welcome back. Thanks for supplying the information. I have read the article on Oblt.z.S.Oskar Kusch by Dr.Eric C.Rust and found it very interesting. This gives a fair and balanced account of what happened in comparison to a previous book that has been mentioned here before. I was glad to see Oskar Kusch's name along with all the other U-boatmen that lost their lives honoured on the

Hi Rainer I am surprised that Heinrich Liebe did not see that the Leukos had neutral markings and flying the Irish flag especially as this ship was sailing with its lights on. Regards Denis Martin

Hi All Mystery surrounding the sinking of neutral Irish Trawler Leukos on the 9th.March 1940 by U38 Captained by Heinrich Liebe. The Leukos was flying an Irish flag from her stern and had a large Irish flag painted along her starboard and port sides. The SS leukos also had her lights on and was travelling in a convoy when the Irish ship was attacked. I would be interested to hear any comments
