Hello everybody! I would like to introduce a new book by Axel Niestlé to you: "Convoy battles - U-boat attacks against the convoys S.C. 7, S.C. 118 and J.W. 66/R.A 66" The book is fully written bilingual in german and english. For a more detailed description see here:

That happened again and again, look at the wolfpacks: several uboats in the same area attacking the same target (convoy). U 652 first made contact with that convoy and reported its position by radio hour by hour. U 205 received that message and went there for making an own attack.

As elsewhere mentioned: yes, that attack was logged in the war diary of U 205. Concerning convoys:

"Rohwer's "Allied Submarine Attacks of World War Two" has ship A as being torpedoed by UNTIRING. " Was this an early printed version of Rohwer? In the online version of "Allied Submarine Attacks" it is ship B: Ship A seems to be sunk by planes 12.03.1944 in Toulon: % When was ship C torpedoed?

Hello Kenn! Kindly note that Rohwer's "Axis Submarine Successes" is still being edited by Thomas Weis. I don't think that there will be a new printed edition, but the results can be seen as a database online on our website Historisches Marinearchiv: As Thomas is no member of this forum, new results, improvements and corrections can possibly be made in our forum:

It was U 65 that attacked the Newton Pine but she was not hit by the shells of the freighter. But they came uncomfortably close which was the reason for U 65 to back off.

No war patrol, just the movement from Helsingor to Kiel for some maintenance and resupply.

I guess you are asking about the british submarine HMS Seal: Part of the crew were held in a POW camp in Poland, according to the Wiki article. I don't know if they were forced to work in coal mines. But I think other members here can shed a light on this matter.

Hi! The best is to do your research here and ask for information: There you get at least the naval units your uncle served for. As he died at Sworbe (where heavy land-based fighting took place) it is very unlikely that he died on a uboat. Please keep in mind that answering your research can take the Federal Archive upt to 9-12 months. Sadly...

There were two air raids that day, one from 1158 till 1252 and one from 1652 till 1848. According to war diary Seetransportchef Ostland most of these vessels were reported lost by one or more hits. No plane crashing into a ship is mentioned.

Is it really I.O.W. or is it I.W.O.? The latter would mean 1. Wachoffizier (First Officer of the Watch). That was Rudolf Conrad as you can see in our crewlist-database (which is definitly not complete!!):

I don't know where the information "AO 30" and "U 370 in Kalasika" come from. War diary U 481 states that it went alongside U 370 in the port of Nuokko and delivered food and ammo because it should go to Gotenhafen for an overhaul. War diary U 370 states the same, but gives the place with the cryptic name "Grand Hotel".
