122. Re: U106
None of these uboats recorded an attack between 01. and 03.05.1942. Also Duikboat does not mention an attack by this destroyer on any boat for these dates.

123. Re: U123
Hi John! Sorry for not being able to help you any further. I had a closer look to the war diary and the name is either Petzak (the first letter was corrected one time). I attach it here. The problem with the crew lists on the web is that it is often not clear wether they are complete or not. I found a Walter Patzak who died on U 722 on 27.03.1945. But it is only a very uncertain

On the uboat.net-website it is said that there are no attacks recorded on U 457 during her first patrol. Well, here is one: On 04.07.1942 according to the war diary she was attacked by plane: "The war diary records: "20:19: Alarm, Depth a+0." "20:22: Bomb. Big explosion, light damage" (afterwards damages are listed). "probably shipborne aircraft".

U 878 was sunk by british forces in the Bay of Biscay with the loss of the entire crew: So how could that uboat have surrendered??? And according to the website that belongs to this forum her emblem was something like a rabbit, seen from the front: Where is your information with the eagle from? Business with false and fake artefacts sadly is growing more and more.

During the night of 02./03.07.1942 U 161 went into the harbor of Puerto Limon and sank the freighter "San Pablo" but the crew never made landfall and the boat left the harbor right after the attack.

The war diary of the boat does not mention the name nor that he was transferred to another ship.

137. Re: U107
On 28.07.1943 there was an attack on U 262 and U 760 by Sunderlands from VP63. Sq USN at about 15:50. This is the only recorded attack on two boats for that day that I know.

The only uboat that made contact with survivors of a downed allied plane on 02.09.1943 was U 386. That took place at 20:28 in square BE 9658 which is roughly 175 nautical miles west of the spanish town La Coruna. But there were seven survivors in the dinghy. The uboat did not take them on board because it was on it's way to the designated patrol area.

U 40: BdU got letters from three survivors in which they wrote that the boat hit a mine on 13.10.1939 and was lost with all hands except those three men. On 09.11.1939 the boat was reported missing (1 star). There was no 2- and 3-star-report. There seem to be no reports for the other boats. For U 745 I don't know as I don't have the war diary.

140. Re: U132
In this case the detail page for SS Hatimura on uboat.net is not correct, I guess. On the page for U 132 it is said that the boat most probably just waited in the vicinity of Hatimura for her sinking. At 00:44 o'clock on 04.11.1942 the big explosion took place according to the war diary of U 442 which shook that boat heavily, too.

Where is the information from that U 68 was damaged by air attack on 03.08. at 15:45? The war diary mentions only that she was ordered back by BdU and arrived at exactly that time in harbour. Also the war diary mentions that U 68 departed on 08.09.1943 at 19:00 for her 8th patrol (literally).

How safe is the date and the harbor? There are at least three commanders of uboats who received the Narvik shield in gold, but they became commander later than 1942: - Rolf Thomsen, U 1202 (27.01.1944) - Gerhard Schaar, U 957 (01.04.1943) - Günther Pulst, U 978 (12.05.1943) Pulst and Schaar operated from Norway. Also receiving this badge but never have been commander are Nikolaus

That's something like "Sick person tranfered for medical treatment by a doctor". Only the word "Omwissling" is strange. Can it be a name?

The boat was ordered to so by the FdU by radio. U 668 there took over torpedoes from Klarmachschiff ANNA REHDER and afterwards left for Narvik. In the war diary FdU I found no such order or hint.

147. Re: U366
According to war diary FdU Norway she operated against convoy QP-26 (the german name for RA-57). The convoy was detected the day before and U 366 was one of the boats being in 5-hour-readiness that departed against the convoy after its detection.

On 17.08.1942 at 20:50 U 564 was attacked. This is the only attack that is listed here by 1BombSq USAAF: Type in the dates of the period searched for and select "aircraft attack" for event. For further explanations have a look at the intro page:
