On 15.06.1942 U 161 collided, while attacking a small convoy at periscope depth, with a freighter and the conning tower was damaged.

To the webmaster: I think I found a technical mistake on the website about 2. U-Flottilla: In the table of the commanders there is a row jump in the row of Werner Hartmann but no row jump in the column of the times. So in all following rows the times are one row too high.

According to Lohmann/Hildebrandt, "Die deutsche Kriegsmarine 1939-1945": Korvettenkapitän Hans Ibbeken 10/1937 - 09/1939 Korvettenkapitän Werner Hartmann 01/1940 - 05/1940 Korvettenkapitän Heinz Fischer 01/1940 - 09/1941 (partly as substitution) Korvettenkapitän Viktor Schütze 10/1941 - 01/1943 Fregattenkapitän (01.09.1944 Kapitän z.S.) The war diary does not confirm that U 99 picked up a survivor. It is only mentioned that the freighter sank within 40 seconds and that it was learned later that it carried iron ore. It is not completely impossible that this was learned from a survivor and was not mentioned in the war diary because so much happened that night. It is only a guess from me that it would have been mentioned anyway

Concerning Bibliothek für Zeitgeschichte: yes they have a lot of torpedo firing reports (TFR). All those from successful attacks you can find on our HMA-Website for Axis Submarine Successes: In some special cases, where success was uncertain, the war diary entries are attached - like that for U 53 on 18. Nov 1939:

HMA website Duikboat, which includes almost all war diary entries from german u-boats, does have no record of an attack for that date:

Hi! I guess you made a typo and refer to U 85 instead? A lot of files to read concerning the sinking of that u-boat:

Hi Jerry! Nice to meet you here as well. :-) A small hint for your website: On the overview page the entry for U 755 seems to be missing. My first look was there but after not finding U 755 there (756 only) I started uploading the three pages. Now where we already have the translated version (which is much better for Brian, I guess) I can stop that.

Hello Lars! A list with all uboat commanders with a "G" as the first letter of the last name you can find here: But there is no Florian as a first name among them.

U 234 / Alfred Hoffmann: Yes. U 372 at least had an agent on board and was supposed to be lost before landing him somewhere.

Hi Derek! I know what you mean and that's the reason why I would not like to do the "minor" changes to the Wiki entry. I could do it because I have an account but I am not an expert on that boat and so I think that somebody who knows the whole thing much better should do that. *twinkle with my eyes at you* What I can (and will) do is to apply the changes to the german Wik

For a repair period like about a month the crew would not be transferred completely to another boat. But what often happened is that a couple of sailors would be transferred to another crew/a new crew to get a mix of experienced and unexperienced crew members.

It simply needs someone who has an account at wikipedia and can edit the article. Or you create one (it's for free) and do it by yourself.

This is not 100% sure. The war diary says only that the life boat was presumably from the Gelhaus victim. There was not made any further identification.

Hi! 1.) No. U 380 entered the port of Messina because of engine damage. By the air attack the boat received more damage and was not battle ready any more. That's the reason for going to La Spezia. 2.) The name of the harbor is Porto Nuovo. It is a part of Livorno. There U 380 loaded 25 ts of ammunition. First it was ordered to load petrol but that was cancelled in favor of ammo. On

Hello Marinka! Concerning U 393: I guess then that you have the report of radio operator Lothar Zinnau (3 pages). For U 5 I have only the NARA War diary and nothing on U 120.

Hello! Well, telling the number of the boat would have made answering your question a bit easier. :-) First option: Does NARA have a copy? That can be answered by downloading the NARA guide No. 2 (german uboats) somewhere in the internet. Or by telling me the number of the boat. ;-) Second option: The german uboat Archive might have some information: Please note that they charge
