Just aft of the forward torpedo room is the petty officers’ living area. This is the entry point for visitors into the boat. This view is looking to starboard at the set of four bunks on that side. In the middle of the divider between the two sets of bunks is a shaft, that is the flood valve shaft for starboard fuel ballast tank 7. A couple of small wheels are visible top right - the leftmost one is the blowing connection to starboard fuel ballast tank 7, and the rightmost one is the emergency vent flap for sealing off this ballast tank should the vent ducting become ruptured.
