Kriegsmarine Uniforms
by Sandro Coletta
The Kriegsmarine has two kinds of uniforms - the blue one and the grey ("die Feldgraue") one for the men who served ashore.
The blue uniform-set consists of
Dienstanzug (service uniform)
kleiner Dienstanzug (undress uniform)
Ausgehanzug (Walking out dress)
Sportanzug (Sportswear)
Tropen- und Sommeranzug (Tropical and summer uniform)
grosse Uniform (Parade dress)
kleiner Gesellschaftsanzug (Day (with jacke)/evening/mess dress (with blue or white messejacke. Blue has sleeve markings, white, shoulder boards) with medal ribbon bar and dagger. Worn on social occasions.)
grosser Gesellschaftsanzug (Day/evening/mess dress with decorations and dagger or sword.)
Additionally many special uniforms were given out for U-Boat-crews, divers, Pilots, etc. Due to the many different uniforms and branches we have split them into five parts:
Branches |
Officers |
Senior Petty Officers & Midshipmen |
Petty Officers and Other Ranks |
Uniforms in daily use |
