UC 57 had sailed on November 12, 1917 to land eight Finnish Jägers and 4 tons of munition on the island of Hamnskär. After successfully dropping off the men and supplies, the boat was going to lay on the sea bed overnight before returning to Germany. UC 57 never arrived in Danzig. There is a memorial to the crew on Hamnskär.
