| Notes on loss | At 12.26 hours on 29 Oct, 1942, the unescorted Ross (Master John Dodds) was torpedoed by U-159 southeast of Cape Agulhas. The ship sank after two coups de grāce hit at 12.42 and 13.32 hours. One gunner was lost. The master, 32 crew members and six gunners were picked up by HMS Rockrose (K 51) (Lt E.J. Binfield) and landed at Simonstown. | ||
