Notes on event

At 21.25 hours on 1 Feb 1941 the unescorted Nicolas Angelos, a straggler from convoy OB-279, was hit near the bridge by one torpedo from U-48 about 130 miles northwest of Rockall after being missed by a first torpedo at 20.58 hours. The U-boat waited for the crew to abandon ship and then fired 28 rounds from the deck gun from 21.50 to 22.15 hours. The ship caught fire and sank by the bow at 23.04 hours. Schultze observed how the survivors set sail in their lifeboat, but they were never found.
