| Notes on loss | At 08.15 hours on 26 Jul, 1942, U-66 fired a spread of two torpedoes at the unescorted Tamandaré (Master José Martins de Oliveira) and scored a hit in the stern. The U-boat had spotted the armed ship at 06.58 hours and observed how the ship capsized at 08.58 hours and sank by the stern. Four crew members were lost. The survivors had abandoned ship in two lifeboats and were picked up by USS PC-492 after being spotted by an aircraft. | ||
