Notes on event

At 00.53 hours on 7 July 1940 the unescorted Sea Glory (Master Stanley Winston Harvey) was hit on the port side just ahead of the bridge by one of two G7e torpedoes from U-99 and sank by the bow within two minutes about 110 miles south-southwest of Fastnet. The master, 27 crew members and one gunner were lost. Kretschmer had not intended to fire two torpedoes in this attack, a second torpedo tube was only prepared to be fired as coup de grĂ¢ce, but was launched too by mistake. The ship had been reported missing after leaving Fowey and was presumed lost on 11 July.
