Notes on event | At 00.53 hours on 7 July 1940 the unescorted Sea Glory (Master Stanley Winston Harvey) was hit on the port side just ahead of the bridge by one of two G7e torpedoes from U-99 and sank by the bow within two minutes about 110 miles south-southwest of Fastnet. The master, 27 crew members and one gunner were lost. Kretschmer had not intended to fire two torpedoes in this attack, a second torpedo tube was only prepared to be fired as coup de grâce, but was launched too by mistake. The ship had been reported missing after leaving Fowey and was presumed lost on 11 July. | ||
