Renamed S 8 after being transferred to Italy in exchange for transport vessels. Reverted to Germany as U-1161 after the Italian capitulation. Scuttled at 2200hrs on 4 May, 1945 near Flensburg, in Kupfermühlen Bay. Wreck broken up.
Men lost from U-boats
Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-1161 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
