Notes on class | At the outbreak of the Second World War four submarines were under construction for the Turkish Navy at Vickers Armstrong at Barrow-in-Furness. Two of the four boats were required urgently by the Turkish Government. It was arranged that these two boats would be commissioned into the Royal Navy for the passage to Turkey. The two other boats were taken over by the Royal Navy for war service. These ships were based on the British S-class. |
