Notable events involving Giulio Cesare include:
29 Oct 1955
The Soviet battleship Novorossiysk (ex. Italian Giulio Cesare) exploded and sank in Sevastopol Bay resulting in the death of 608 sailors, most of whom were staying in the ship's compartments. It became the worst disaster in Soviet naval history but due to the Cold War the incident was not widely known until the late 80's. Most likely cause of the disaster was a old German mine floating underneath bow of the ship. (1)
