Notable events involving Luciano Manara include:
27 Oct 1943
Manara (Lt. Gaspare Cavallina) sailed from Brindisi at 1750 hrs of 27 October and returned at 0638 of 3 November, after spending 157 hours at sea.
She had been tasked with recovering 3 separate groups of Allied agents in locales along the coast of the Upper Adriatic. The mission was successful but, due to the sub's age and her wartime service, there were several breakdowns which convinced MariCoSom (the Italian Submarine Forces Command) not to use Manara again on such endeavours. She was assigned to training duties instead.
