History

HMS LST 414 was torpedoed and damaged at 0335 hours on 15 August 1943 by Italian aircraft off Bizerte, Tunisia. The ship was beached and abandoned. She was formally paid off on 14 November 1943.

The Italian aircraft was an S.79 torpedo bomber belonging to the 278^ Sqn,132nd Group, piloted bv captain Carlo Faggioni, which had taken off from Decimomannu airfield, Sardinia.
