From 26 November to 1 December 1944, Giovanni da Procida (T.V.(Lt.) F. Castracane Degli Antelminelli) conducted A/S exercises off Bermuda with Task Group 22.4 which was made up of the escort carrier USS Core (T/Capt. R.S. Purvis, Jr., USN, also COMTASKGR 22.4) and the destroyer escorts USS Moore (Lt.Cdr. R.H. Jones, USNR, with COMCORTDIV 7, Capt. T.S. Dunstan, USNR on board), USS Keith (Lt. J.L. Rinn, USNR), USS Tomich (Lt.Cdr. C.B. Brown, USNR), USS J. Richard Ward (Lt. E.B. Seeley, Jr., USNR), USS Otterstetter (Lt.Cdr. L.E. Whitmore, USNR), USS Sloat (Lt.Cdr. W.A. Cashman, USNR). USS PCE-846 (Lt. F.D. Andruss, USNR) was also in the area as close escort for the submarine.
