HMS Truant (Lt.Cdr. J.G. Hopkins, RN) shifted from the Clyde area to Port HHX to participate in trials off that port. During her passage there she was escorted by HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). (1)

25 May 1943
HMS Usurper (Lt. D.R.O. Mott, DSC, RN) conducted attack exercises in the Clyde area with HMS Breda (Capt.(Retd.) A.E. Johnston, RN). Also gunnery exercises were carried out on a target towed by HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). (2)

29 May 1943
HMS Thrasher (Lt.Cdr. A.R. Hezlet, DSC, RN) conducted exercises in the Clyde area. These included attack exercises with HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). (3)

HMS Uther (Lt. P.S. Beale, RN) conducted exercises in the Clyde area with HMS White Bear (Cdr.(Retd.) C.C. Flemming, RN) and HMS La Flore (Lt. F.W. Hayden, RN). These were followed by gunnery exercises on a target that was towed by HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). (5)

13 Oct 1943
HMS Taku (Lt. A.J.W. Pitt, RN) conducted exercises in the Clyde area. These included gunnery exercises on a target towed by HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). (6)

14 Oct 1943
HMS Taku (Lt. A.J.W. Pitt, RN) conducted radar exercises in the Clyde area with HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). Taku proceeded to Campbeltown upon completion of these exercises. (6)

HMS Vitality (Lt. K.S. Renshaw, DSC, RNR) conducted exercises off Larne with HMS Bridgewater (Cdr.(Retd.) R.H. Mack, RN) and HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). Following the exercises with these surface ships HMS Vitality conducted gunnery and night exercises. (9)

28 Nov 1944
HMS Unrivalled (Lt. D.S. Brown, RNVR) conducted gunnery exercises in the Clyde area with a target that was towed by HMS Jan van Gelder (Lt. P.D. O'Driscoll, RNR). (10)
