History | USS Atlanta (Capt. Samuel Power Jenkins, USN) was wrecked by gunfire and torpedoes from Japanese warships on 12 November 1942. After an attempted salvage failed the ship was scuttled off Guadalcanal the following day.The Commanding officer survived the sinking however he was wounded and Rear Admiral Norman Scott was killed. |
