History

On 25 August 1939 the passenger ship Alaunia of the Cunard White Star Ltd., Liverpool was requisitioned by the Admiralty for conversion to an armed merchant cruiser.

She served as armed merchant cruiser until 17 May 1944, when she was decomissioned and placed in dockyard control for conversion to repair ship.

Recomissioned as repair ship on 21 August 1945. Sold for scrap in 1957 and subsequently scrapped at Blyth arriving there on 10 September 1957.

At 1200A/21, HMS Alaunia (Capt. H.J. Anchor, OBE, RNR) is recommissioned as repair ship at the Devonport Dockyard. (2)

17 Sep 1945
HMS Alaunia (Capt. H.J. Anchor, OBE, RNR) conducted D/G trials off Plymouth. (3)

19 Sep 1945
HMS Alaunia (Capt. H.J. Anchor, OBE, RNR) conducted speed trials on the measured mile off Plymouth. (3)

28 Sep 1945
HMS Alaunia (Capt. H.J. Anchor, OBE, RNR) conducted D/G trials off Plymouth.

She remained at Plymouth until 8 October when she left for the Far East. (3)
