History | USS Macaw (Lt.Cdr. P.W. Burton) ran aground on 16 January 1944 in the Midway Channel. Salvage attempts failed and on 12 February 1944 she slipped off the reef and sank. During the sinking on 12 Feb Lt.Cdr. Burton and 4 of his crew died. |
