You should contact Joe Brandt who left you a previous message regarding this topic. Yes, the snorkel is more realistic, but remember, you have to be at or above periscope depth to be able to pump air back into the ballast tank. Is you cannot break the surface for whatever reason, your boat is lost. I don't know if there is a fail safe device for this typr of ballast system.
