The Deck-lichtgrau #63, or wood?

Dear Friends,

I have encountered yet another matter that presents conflicting information: the proper color scheme for the deck. Am I quite sure that IX submarines, as well as VII towards the end of the war, had wood deck. The pictures of the Loebe u-boat demonstrate this, as well as those enticing pics on fineartmodels.com. However, the instructions on the revell kit call for lichtgrau--the same color for the tower and the hull from waterline up. Three articles I have referred to call for this as well, though one of them fell for the misconception that the hull should be painted red. I ordered "Battle Beneath the Waves" under the premise that there would be color diagrams. There are none. So I am wondering, were the deck of VII B's at the start of the war steel painted lichtgrau #63, or were they wood. Your collective expertise and knowledge would be must welcome. Offering warm regards as always, I remain,

Ever Vigilant,

Einsamer Wolf
