Hello Rainer,
I've just found a few close-up photos of U995 which shows that these "horizontal lines" are simply strips of steel that went over the join between two plates. Then rivets were added to hold the plates together. I've included a photo with arrows to indicate which lines I was talking about. I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, as English is my first language, but can you tell me what I should call them?
